A New Rear Elevation
The new volume starts as a mono-pitch roof profile at the front of the house and opens up to a double-pitch roof to the rear. This mirrors the existing rear elevation and fills the under-utilised space between the two properties.
The material used is charred black timber that picks up on local precedents.
Internally, the proposal is to expose the timber structure in the roof. This can create high spaces, and also gives the space character and interest while being honest to its construction. Using raw and honest materials also give the rooms warmth and texture.
