1st Hatch End Scout Hut

We have been appointed to work on the refurbishment of 1st Hatch End Scout Hut, Harrow. A feasibility study was produced which reviewed the internal spatial organisation and most importantly the existing roof, which is asbestos and leaking. A subsequent planning application was submitted in December 2018.

Thermally and Aesthetically Enhanced

Thermally and Aesthetically Enhanced

The proposal will see the removal of the existing asbestos cladding. Replacing it will be an updated insulated cladding system. The intended aesthetic will ensure the existing semi-industrial aesthetic will develop into a more refined version of its former self.

New Dormer Windows

In the main the mass and scale of the existing building is maintained, however, the addition of vertical elements to the roof create opportunity to establish a stronger elevational presence whilst allowing high level windows that allows light to flood into the internal spaces.

A New Entrance

A New Entrance

A branded entrance helps give the building more of an identity, as well as giving practical shelter and security. We designed a carefully composed architectural element that incorporates ramped access, with steps, planter and canopy.

Integrated Storage

Integrated Storage

The overall storage strategy has been consolidated and re-organised to better suit the different functions and requirements. Flush doors and handles on the built-in storage unit allow for a durable and unobtrusive surfaces within the multi-purpose hall.
